Art and Cartography—Cartography and Art Symposium
February 1-2, 2008 in Vienna, Austria
Organized by William Cartwright, Georg Gartner and Antje Lehn
The International Cartographic Association (ICA) is forming a new working group on Art and Cartography to foster collaboration between artists and cartographers. The symposium will bring together practising artists, architects and cartographers and those involved in research and education in these fields.
Topics include:
• Maps as artistic artifacts (aspects of artistic and graphical expressions with and
through maps in cartography (contemporary and historical);
• Explorations of different interpretations of space and place using New Media
and experimental art forms (depicting space with narratives, paintings,
graphics, sounds, animations, installations, time-based media and other non-
traditional cartographic artifacts.
Written papers, posters, installations, artwork, film, video, web applications and experimental media are welcome.
