CaGIS nominates Allan Carroll to NGAC

by Ilse Genovese last modified 2007-12-07 09:29

CaGIS Board announced June 28 its decision to nominate Allan Carroll, Chief Cartographer and Executive Vice President of National Geographic Maps, National Geographic Society, to represent the concerns of the Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) and, more broadly, ACSM on the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC), established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA).

The purpose of NGAC is to provide a means through which non-federal stakeholders can provide input to the FGDC. Information from FGDC on this matter can be found at
www.fgdc.gov/participation/steering-committee-minutes/may07/may07-sc/.

Carroll’s nomination by CaGIS was endorsed by ACSM and the Mapping Sciences Council of the National Research Council.  The nominations will be reviewed by a FGDC panel, which will make recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior who will make the appointments. It is intended that the NGAC should consist of approximately 25 members.
